Govt pensioners can submit life certificate at home by paying Rs 60
The Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances & Pensions has instructed pension disbursing banks to provide the facility of submission of life certificate by pensioners who don't submit it by Nov 30, at their doorstep for a charge not exceeding Rs 60. These instructions were issued via a circular dated January 17, 2020.
Government pensioners are mandatorily required to submit their life certificate every year in the month of November to ensure that their pension is not stopped.
In order to ensure that no government pensioner misses out on submission of life certificate, the ministry has asked banks to create the list of pensioners who have not submitted their life certificate on December 1 every year. The banks have also been asked to send additional reminders via SMS/Email to such pensioners who have not submitted their life certificate. Further, while sending reminder messages via SMS/Email to the pensioners the banks should ask the pensioners whether they are interested in availing the facility of submitting the life certificate from the comfort of their home.
Remember, for government pensioners, the last date to submit the life certificate is November 30, every year.
Banks have been asked to remind pensioners about submitting life certificate via sms and email. To ensure the timely submission of life certificate by the pensioners, the ministry has asked banks to send SMSs/Emails to the pensioners on October 24, November 1, November 15 and November 25 for reminding them about submission of life certificate.
Last year via a circular dated July 18, 2019, the Central Government has allowed the pensioners aged 80 years and above to submit their life certificate from October 1, every year instead of November 1.
